Mr David Grabowski BA (Hons)
David has a decades worth of experience at Director level in Private Healthcare.
David launched Stonegate Medical Clinic to offer Patients Choice and the ability to receive truly patient centred care at times to suit them at our convenient location.
From East Yorkshire, David moved to Sheffield to complete his Joint Honour Degrees in Business Studies & Marketing before moving to York in 2007 where he took up the position of Operations & Marketing Director at a brand new start-up Private Dental provider. As part of David’s personal development, he undertook a Graduate Diploma in Law at the then York College of Law which he completed in between getting married and becoming a father.
David has always believed in promoting excellence of care to patients offering choice and true patient centred care in comfortable and welcoming settings.
David lives in York with his wife and two children. In his spare time, David enjoys mountain biking, skiing, wild camping and travel. He is also a passionate musician playing piano, keyboard and saxophone.
Clinical Lead & Team Doctor
Dr Joanna Buk-Filak MB, MRCGP, DFSRH
Originally from Gdansk, Poland, Dr Buk-Filak moved to UK following graduation from Medical School in 2005.
On graduation she trained mainly in Yorkshire, undertaking medical training before deciding that General Practice best suited her skills and interests. She started GP training in York in 2010 in both the hospital and local surgeries and qualified in 2013. On qualification she began working as a Salaried GP in the local surgery. Along with her Private GP sessions at Stonegate Medical, Dr Buk-Filak also works as a locum GP.
Dr Modesta R. Kavu Doctor of Medicine M.D, GP
I graduated at the Medical University of Warsaw as a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery in 2005 after which I did my GP training and qualified in 2012. I have worked as a doctor in respiratory medicine in a leading NHS hospital. I have published a few medical articles and done presentations at the British Thoracic Association Conference. I have worked in general practice and in hospitals overseas and in UK within the NHS and private practices attaining varied experiences and skills in different health care settings. I trained in travel vaccines including yellow fever. One of my aspirations is to more voluntary work in poorer countries and communities as pro bono publico work. My philosophy in life is, ‘Do unto others what you would want them to do unto you.’
Outside my work, I enjoy walking, running, travelling and spending time with loved ones. I am a member of a choir although I cannot honestly say that I am a good singer.
Dr Madhu Lazarus MBBS, DMRD, DRCOG, MRCGP, DFFP, Cert in Palliative care
I graduated as a doctor in 1987 and joined the Army Medical Corps as a General Duty Medical Officer. On completion of a 5 year short service tenure I undertook Post graduate studies in Radiodiagnosis. On completion of this I worked as a specialist radiologist and continued to also work as a generalist for a not -for-profit organization for a few years.
I then had the privilege of working in Africa for 3 years as a Radiologist and on my return to India continued to work as a specialist radiologist for a few years. In 2003 I decided to return to General Practice
I moved to the UK in 2004 and worked for almost 2 years in Psychiatry before undertaking the VTS. I have been a GP for the past 8 years.
Dr Will Robertson MBCHB, BSC (Hons), MRCGP, DOccMed
Dr Robertson graduated from the University of Leicester in 2011 before then completing a BSC in Sports Medicine and a Diploma in Occupational medicine alongside his clinical work. He spent a year working as an emergency doctor in New Zealand before completing his General practice training in 2018.
He has recently returned from running a rural practice on the East Coast of Tasmania and is currently also working as a salaried GP in east Leeds and as well for the Wakefield Clinical Commissioning Group as a GP lead.
Outside of medicine he enjoys anything that gets him outside, as well as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, wine and food and travelling.
Louise Armstrong RM, BSc (hons), MSc, PGCEA
Louise has been a registered midwife with a special interest in infant feeding for over 30 years. She has worked both in clinical practice and university midwifery education.
She qualified as a registered nurse in 1984 in Sheffield before undertaking her midwifery education at St Mary’s hospital in Paddington, London. Right from the beginning of her midwifery career, Louise developed an interest in infant feeding and helping mothers get breastfeeding off to a good start. After working in hospital Louise became a community midwife working in a team that provided holistic midwifery care throughout the whole childbirth continuum attending many home and hospital births. She facilitated antenatal education classes in the community and visited many mothers during their first few weeks after birth helping them with breastfeeding. It was here she developed experience with all aspects of infant feeding.
Having a passion for teaching, Louise become involved in working as a university lecturer overseeing student midwives in their training where she still practices today. Louise currently leads the ‘Baby Friendly’* accreditation of a university midwifery programme. Pursuing her interest and passion in helping mothers with their choice of infant feeding, Louise trained to Masters level in the practice of frenulotomy (tongue-tie division) at the University of Wolverhampton. The clinical practice was at the tongue-tie clinic in the Russell Hall hospital in Dudley which is one of the largest specialist clinics of its kind in England.
Louise is a member of the Royal College of Midwives (RCM), the Association of Tongue Tie Practitioners (ATP) and an associate member of the lactation consultants UK.
Louise lives with her husband locally in York and enjoys walking and meeting up with friends socially.
Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
Deb Wilson MSc MA BSc (Hons) ANNP IBCLC
Please meet Deb Wilson, an Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, Independent Prescriber, Tongue-tie Practitioner and Lactation Consultant. Deb has worked within neonatal services since qualifying as a paediatric nurse in 2002. After starting her professional career as a staff nurse on the neonatal unit at RVI in Newcastle she took the opportunity offered by St Georges Hospital Tooting London in 2009 to complete the Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (ANNP) programme at London South Bank University. Furthering her professional career she transferred to East Surrey Hospital in 2015 where she was able to take on a more teaching and supportive role whilst still maintaining clinical skills working on the middle grade medical rota.
It was during her time at East Surrey that Deb completed her training as a Tongue-tie Practitioner, completing the Wolverhampton University Postgraduate Course ‘Advanced Clinical Skills in Tongue tie (Ankyloglossia) Management’ and worked within a small NHS team of practitioners to support a weekly tongue-tie clinic, providing breastfeeding support, tongue-tie assessment and division when required.
Deb is now working freelance as an ANNP, lactation consultant and tongue-tie practitioner. She is an honorary member of the Association of Tongue-tie Practitioners (ATP), former chair and current Treasurer. Deb is also a member of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) and registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Insurance is through Hiscox.
As a Clinical Academic, Helen has designed and led clinical trials to investigate the evidence of psychological interventions for early intervention for mental health problems in young people. Her research collaborations include researchers from the United Kingdom, Europe and Australia. She has been a Research Professor with the Early Intervention in Psychosis Program in Stavanger, Norway for the past 10 years. In Australia and England, she has led clinical teams in city and rural areas for child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS), Consultation Liaison Psychiatry, palliative care for children, and early intervention in psychosis (EIP). More recently, she has been the Course Coordinator for the Master of Clinical Psychology program at a Western Australian university. She is a Psychology Board of Australia approved Supervisor for Clinical Psychologists and Clinical Psychologist Registrars.
Professor Helen J Stain BA(Hons) MClinPsych PhD FHEA
Helen is a Clinical Psychologist and Professor of Psychology with over 25 years of experience in providing evidence based psychological therapy for adolescents and adults in the United Kingdom, Europe and Australia.
As a therapist, Helen has an integrated therapeutic approach of attachment informed interpersonal therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). This allows her to offer short or long term therapy depending on the needs of the client. Using an attachment framework, her work with clients to explore their early relational experiences to understand and adjust their current relational patterns to improve their sense of self, life satisfaction and wellbeing, and to achieve relief from symptoms. Her CBT training includes specialist training in Trauma Focussed CBT and CBT for psychosis.
She has a strong background in the assessment and treatment of trauma as well as many years of experience in treating a range of mental health difficulties including social anxiety, depression, grief and loss, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Psychosis, Illness Anxiety, Generalised Anxiety Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. In recent years she has developed her knowledge and skills for the psychological treatment of issues associated with Autism in adulthood and also with transgender and gender diversity. She strongly believes in an empathic, open and engaging therapeutic style as the foundation essential for change to occur in therapy. She continues to feel privileged and humbled by the willingness of clients to share their most personal experiences with her so that they can work on these together throughout their journey in therapy. She enjoys providing therapy and observing the growth and strength of clients as they master the challenges of life.
Occupational Health Doctor
Dr Paul Davies
He enjoys the variety of cases occupational health work brings and aims to assess employees with medical conditions accurately and provide clear, high quality reports. These reports help our clients support employees with medical conditions and help proactive management of sickness absence and performance concerns affected by medical conditions.
His occupational health experience has covered a wide range of sectors including transport/rail industry, manufacturing industry, corporate clients, Oil and Gas sector, work abroad and health care.
He is experienced in providing high quality reports for management referrals, independent medical assessments, HAVS tier 4 assessments, vehicle licensing as well as advising companies regarding policy development, how to ensure companies maximise the benefits of occupational health services. He is able to assess the impact health conditions have on specific job roles and the impact on employees’ health that hazards in the workforce can have. This allows him to work with the company to ensure the relevant solutions are implemented.
Away from Occupational Health, he enjoys outdoor activity of most kinds rewarding. He enjoys travelling, guitar, reading and time with family and friends when time allows.
Dr Calum Lyon MA (Cantab) 1993, FRCP 1995, MBBChir 1991
Dr Calum Lyon is an award-winning dermatologist based in York.
He specialises in skin cancer and offers a diverse range of dermatological procedures. Graduating from the University of Cambridge in 1991 he undertook specialist training in dermatology at the Salford Royal Hospital in Manchester. Further training included treatments for contact allergies and skin prick testing. Having been appointed consultant status in 2001 he focussed his expertise on the diagnosis and management of skin cancer and dermatological surgery. Additionally, he frequently runs clinics for skin conditions related to inflammatory bowel disease and stomas.
